Undortunatly one of the things we've found when working on the Debian Installer project is that debootstrap is not particularly idempotent. If it fails it's best to delete every file it wrote to the disk, with the possible exception of the apt cache, before starting again. Otherwise you'll likely get strange errors about ln and sed and stuff and debootstrap will fail again. -- see shy jo
