Exactly how is it more difficult?  If you get a good distro with decent
tools you should be OK.  I have heard that distros like Mandrake and
Lindows are exceptionally easy for newbies and former Windoze users to
get going with.

I have run into situations where fixing specific problems with Windoze
required workarounds and hacks that are just as complex as anything you
may need to do under Linux.  The main difference is that there are
significantly more Windoze user, and this, a much larger support base.
The likelihood that your neighbor or one of your buddies from work or
school is adept as a Windoze user or works in IT is pretty high
nowadays.  So, most people just let someone else handle it.
