you have to boot the right kernel ..

	- if lilo/grub passes hdc="ide-scsi"  than it will see the cdrw
	and will not talk ata for ide disks

	- vice versa for kernels that talks to disks on hdc that
	wont see ide based cdrw

	- or so it would seem ... ran into that problem with both
	grub/lilo while trying to swap disk and cdrw 

	- but a plain old ide cdrom vs ide disks are interchangeable
