dpkg fails after removing some packages

Hello,

i reinstalled a local broken server using my own desktop backups. It's a
mixed testing/unstable system. All went well but when i tried to remove
some packages, something went wrong with dpkg. It seems linked to
base-files. dpkg is version 1.10.10, base-files 3.0.10
This is what happens when i try apt-get install base-files:

---------------------------------------
Reading Package Lists...
Building Dependency Tree...

The following extra packages will be installed:
 base-files

The following packages will be REMOVED:
 aalib1 gimp1.2 libwine wine

1 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 4 to remove and 109 not
upgraded.

5 packages not fully installed or removed.

Need to get 0B/32.8kB of archives. After unpacking 48.5MB will be freed.

Do you want to continue? [Y/n] (Database inlezen ... E: Sub-process
/usr/bin/dpkg exited unexpectedly
---------------------------------------

Afterwards, i have to do a dpkg --configure -a before i can use dpkg
again. I checked the drive with fsck.ext3 and it's allright.
The status of base-files is now listed as iHR by dpkg.
I even tried ar -x on the 1.10.10 deb of dpkg and extracting that in the
root so that all file are definitly not broken but that doesn't seem to
help. ( this is described in the debian reference 6.3.7)

Clearing the cache also doesn't help.
My system is unusable like this and i really haven't got a clue why.
How can i solve these dpkg crashes because it seems that these are the
root of all the other problems?

Thanks
Benedict
