You ARE aware that your tutorial covers the ancient and obsolete Cyrus IMAPd
version 1.5, don't you?
Get v2.1 from http://people.debian.org/~hmh/ or cyrus21-* packages in
unstable and sarge.
For instructions on how to setup the thing, read
/usr/share/doc/cyrus21-doc/README.Debian.simpleinstall.gz
SSL, pop-before-smtp/imap-before-smtp, POP3, IMAP, and server-side
threading, filtering, sorting, etc are all available with v2.1.
