tinc and networking

Has anyone successfully run tinc where the remote debian box connecting is using dhcp? 
If so how did you configure the tinc-up file? 
I'm using kernel 2.4.18 and the network configuration now uses the /etc/interfaces file which does not use the ifconfig and route commands as 2.2 did. What is the difference in how the interfaces file runs?
