cannot install perl-doc
hello there,
for some reason, when i try to install perl-doc, i get this message: ******
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
perl-doc: Depends: perl (>= 5.6.1-8.3) but it is not going to be
installed
E: Sorry, broken packages
rock:/home/dude#
****
not sure what that means. i am running woody with gnome2.2. also as a
permanent fix for my knowledge about these dependency errors, can someone
tell me how i go about figuring whats wrong when an error like above pops
up? like, in this case, it says perl-doc depends on perl with version later
to 5.6.1-8.3; i have perl 5.8 installed. so there shouldn't be any problem,
right? why does it say "but it is not going... " if the package it depends
on has the correct installed version?
thanks
