Re: e2fsck trashed system; chroot now failing

<snip>
Sound like things didnt go well...
a) boot with knoppix
b) attempt to backup important data (email,documents..)
c) see if you can get info for recreating your system.. CHROOT if
possible and dpkg --get-selections
(get other comments as I am not a GURU)
d) see if other can suggest a way to recover enought functionality -- if
it can be done with out killing the hd.
I had a similar situation and was able to get the system to boot after
some dangeroud fsck.reiser fixing and then immediately did a 'dd' hd to
hd copy with knoppix booted. (some have said to use other methods but I
found it worked best)
The point is... when the boat springs a leak...save the people
first...the boat can be replaced.
