I downloaded the latest alsa stable files into my home/alsa directory. I have made some progress, posted the last dmesg to http://hunt.ath.cx/dmesg.txt I was following the instructions on this page. http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php3?company=VIA&card=&chip=via82c686a&module=via82xx I installed "aumix" and set the volume up with that.
