Re: Challenge-response mail filters considered harmful

Earlier, someone said that I was wrong because so many people disagreed
with me.

That's a foolish statement, and I should have called him on it at the
time.

Facts are facts, and the fact is that traditional spam-blocking strategies
don't work, and CR programs do.

Those people may not LIKE this fact, but that doesn't change the truth at
all.

I'd like to thank all of the nice folks who sent me mail today, one of which
I actually read. It was filled with the same juvenile abuse I have been
receiving on the list for the last couple of days.

Then I realized that I had killfiled that person from my newsreader, and
thereafter checked the addresses of incoming mail against my newsreader's
killfile, dumping any mails that came from them.

Yes, these people violated their solemn oaths on the list to
never respond to a CR. No surprise.

Now I have added another feature to MSP, just for harassment from people
like this.

If they send me an abusive mail, they will get a reply informing them that
that I don't want to hear from them again, and that any further mails will
be construed as harassment and be forwarded to abuse at whatever ISP that
account is on, with a copy of the abusive mails and a copy of the warning
I sent them. This will be done automatically.

I will never see more than the first few lines of the original abusive
mail. Any subsequent ones will be added to the file with the first ones
and all will be forwarded to abuse.

Nice feature, isn't it? Much better than a plain killfile.

So fire away and get a criminal record, bozos.
