RE: Network speed

Have you tried using 'ethtool'?

depriest@stalker:~$ dpkg -s ethtool
Package: ethtool
Status: install ok installed
Priority: extra
Section: misc
Installed-Size: 156
Maintainer: Eric Delaunay <delaunay@debian.org>
Version: 1.7-1
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.2.4-4)
Conflicts: sparc-utils (<< 1.9-1)
Description: Display or change ethernet card settings
ethtool is used for querying settings of an ethernet device and
changing them.
 .
It is mainly targeted to 2.4 kernel where this feature is available for
many
 ethernet drivers.
 .
However, backward compatibility is ensured on 2.2 kernel running Sparc
with
SUN Happy Meal (hme) Ethernet card.

Subject: Network speed

Is there a straightforward way to determine what speed (10 or 100mbs) a
NIC is running? How about to determine if it is in half or full duplex
mode?
