if you were good about usage of your PC..
\My Documents all your docs are here
\Downloads all your downloaded files are hre
your basic WinXP files are already on the original cdrom, and
all your basic patches are already on the microsoft update site
-- make a backup of those 2 user directories
instead of worrying about the 1GB or 4GB of un-used windoze files
-- create your partitions
-- install XP onto C: ( for example /dev/hda1 )
-- install debian and any patches
-- restore your user data ( \My Documents and \Downloads )
-- configure dual boot
-- make more backups ,,. leaving the original ones untouched
