I don't know much about CD ripping, but I do know that if you use ide-scsi
your devices should be linked like this:

$ ll /dev/cdrom*
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           11 Jun 26 00:07 /dev/cdrom ->
/dev/cdrom0
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            9 Jun 26 00:07 /dev/cdrom0 ->
/dev/scd0

If, for some reason, they are not linked like that you get errors or odd
behavior.
