Re: apt hangs

I don't seem to be able to apt-get update anymore. This is a new
problem, I have been keeping the system up to date up until now.

The symptoms are that apt-get hangs on
 Building Dependency Tree... 50%

indefinitely. what's kind of curious is that if I attach strace, it
hangs at 67%.

strace output is at
ftp://ftp.madduck.net/scratch/strace.apt-get.hangs.gz [62 Kb]

aptitude, btw, hangs during "Loading cache".

I'd appreciate any tips and hints...

This will be of absolutely no value to you, but I'm seeing similar hangs with apt on the Hurd. I can run apt (or dselect) successfully once, but the second time, every time, it hangs and I have to power cycle the computer. It usually happens on the "Reading database..." phase. As soon as I can figure out enough of what I'm doing to adequately report it as a bug, I will, but that's likely to be a while, as the Hurd only gets a small amount of my attention (rats! I rather enjoy tinkering -- just don't have the time).
