XFree86 and SiS graphics cards

Hi.

Does anybody know how to make xserver-xfree86 work with RAM>4096 on SiS
cards? I read in README that sis driver can only address <=4096 RAM which
gives you at most 1152x864 @ 24bpp (or 1024x768 @ 24bpp - I can't
recall). I switched to vesa driver for which higher modes work, but a
number of applications have problems, even segfaults occur (why???).

On the other hand, 16bpp modes (which can give you 1280x1024 with 4096
RAM) make my xawtv useless - black screen - no TV, no fun :-( 16 bpp is no
fun anyway ;-)

Did anybody try the patch to XFree 4.0 from SiS? Does this help?

Perhaps there are any other solutions better than using old SVGA server
from 3.6 packages?

Thanks in advance.
