Go ahead, just make sure to cc the bug report so that other people can
see that you contacted them.
(Don't mail *just* the bug report; that just goes to the debian-wnpp
mailing list, which wasn't what you meant. Make sure to mail the address
of the person submitting the ITP directly.)
