if unplugging the speaker makes the system boot... than yes, its hanging
your system .. double check your speaker connection on the motherboard
	- try a different speaker and wires

other ways that the system appeaers to be alive and yet dead...
	- check that the disks is spinning up ( you should be able to hear
it and feel it spin up )

- clear the cmos if you plugged in/unplugged some pci cards lately

- boot off a bootable floppy w/ root=/dev/hda1
- boot off a bootable cdrom w/ root=/dev/hda1
.. etc.. where /dev/hda1 is your / partition

- power off ( pull the power cord off asterward ) than remove your
memory... it should beep loudly and clearly .. means all else is working

- sometimes the monitor goes into sleep mode .. wake it up
	- power it off/on .. wait for the clicking sounds ..
	- connect it to a different PC

	- try a different video card

- check your keyboard and mouse ... if you removed those lately ..
(keyboard connector is usually on the bottom - closer to the motherboard)

- threaten the machine that it will forever "lose it's power" ( over
you ) and be sent to the dumpster :-)
	- be nice to it when it's working.. don't make it mad
