curious 3.0r1 absent kernel-image package
After installing Debian for the first time on a PC from the 7 official
binary 3.0r1 CDs, I'm curious to find that no kernel-image package is
installed. For example: (grumpi is the hostname)
grumpi:~# uname -r
2.2.20-idepci
grumpi:~# dpkg -s kernel-image-2.2.20-idepci
Package: kernel-image-2.2.20-idepci
Status: unknown ok not-installed
Priority: optional
Section: base
grumpi:~# ls /var/lib/dpkg/info/kernel-image*
ls: /var/lib/dpkg/info/kernel-image*: No such file or directory
Can anyone explain whether this is how it should be and if so, why? Are
there any benefits to now installing the kernel-image package?
