I am using CUPS on my debian network (server+workstation) and have a printer 
(Brother HL1250) shared on a win98 box.  I just created a cups printer with 
uri smb://pooh/laser (pooh is the machine on the network, laser is the share 
name).

I think I created the ppd file for using this printer from 
www.linuxprinting.org
