XScreenSaver not starting automatically

When I log into GNOME 1.4 on Debian Woody, the XScreensaver daemon doesn't
start automatically. I have to right click on my 'Lock' button, select 'Restart
Daemon', and then I can lock to my heart's content.

Is there an easy way to make it start with GNOME?
