It's a religious issue, in much the same way as the political views many 
people have. At some point, reason has nothing more to do with it. 
Adherants believe what they wish to believe in spite of any arguments.

This is a point in Linus' favor. He's very pragmatic about the whole 
thing. Tanenbaum's arguments may have been persuasive from a theoretical 
standpoint, but the dearth of microkernel OSes pretty much proves that 
1) they are unbelievably complex to implement, and 2) they suffer very 
severe performance problems except on very powerful hardware.
