Check /var/log/messages, /var/log/syslog or /var/log/kern.log
for additional messages not listed in dmesg.

If you prevent gdm, kdm or xdm from starting when you boot, you can
also scroll back through boot messages on console using
[Shift][PageUp] and [Shift][PageDown].
