Since you don't seem to have a problem with using packages from testing or
unstable I am guessing that this not a production or mission critical machine
(firewall, gateway, fileserver, etc).  That being the case, why not just go all
the way to unstable right off the bat?  I'm still relatively new (a Debian user
for only about 8 months, Linux user for 10 months) and am very impressed with
how "stable" the unstable branch is.  So far I have seen that there are few
problems, and when one does arise, it is corrected very quickly.  Just an idea.
