XFree86 4.2 crash, i810 and font path unix/:7100

Dear all,

I just installed Woody base system and then XFree86-common and xserver-common 4.2.1 from
people.debian.org/~blade/
And gnome2.2 of James Strandboge's backport. (I tried Adrian Bunk's xfree86 4.2.1 but it hangs the gnome2.2 installation)

Now when I startx, the xserver crashes like this:

Build Operating System: Linux 2.4.19 i686 [ELF]
Module Loader present
..................
(WW) I810: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:2:1) found
modprobe: Can't locate module i830
[drm] failed to load kernel module "i830"
(EE) I810(0): [dri] DRIScreenInit failed. Disabling DRI.
(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/input/mice
No such device
(EE) Generic Mouse: cannot open input device
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "Generic Mouse"
Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing from list!

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

The i810 is the driver for the intel 830 integrated graphics system on my IBM x30 laptop. The support
for i810 starts from Xfree86 4.2.1  I get it working with Adrian Bunk's XFree86 4.2.1 and kde debian stable
release. But Bunk's X package hangs James Strandboge's backport of gnome installation. So I went for ~blade
X 4.2.1 instead.

The kernel 2.4.19 bit worries me a bit coz the woody 3.0r1 bf2.4 installation comes with 2.4.18 kernel. Could that be a problem?

My XF86Config-4 has:

Section "Files"
FontPath "unix/:7100"
....

Section "Device"
Identifier "Generic Video Card"
Driver "i810"
VideoRam 8192
Option "UseFBDev" "true"

Cheers,

Wei Wang
