"best" laptop autocionfiguration package?
I'm configuring a new laptop that will need to participate in various
networks at home and work. Things that will need to be dynamicly change
based on the network include:
network settings (IP address netmask et al)
perhaps DHCP on some nets
ntp source
Galeon proxy settings
DNS settings
At least those are the ones that come to mind. I'm replacing a FreeBSD
machine that I had hacked a perl script to auto detect which network it was
on by reconfiguring the network interface, and trying to ping some "well
known" IP address on. However, I'm hoping I don't have to reinvent the
wheel here. looking in select, I see several packages that might fit the
bill here.
I'm looking for feedback as to what the capabilities of these packages are.
Success stories, and horror stories both appreciated.
Thanks.
