The HP4100 has a driver in Cups, or foomatic db. I would switch to cups and 
load the gimp-print drivers and the foomatic-db drivers. These will give 
you quite a selection of printer drivers, the HP 4100 is in oone of these 
packages.

Cups has a web interface that make it easy to admin, use 
'http://localhost:631' in your favorite browser. If you have KDE installed 
I use 'kprinter' to manage my printers. This is absolutly the easiest setup 
I have used for any printer connection type, smb, IPP, http, socket, 
parallel,serial.... :)
