Can anyone offer any suggestions beside "stop doing stupid things"?
What does "id <user>" report?
uid=1000(alex) gid=1000(alex) groups=1000(alex)
uid=1001(puck) gid=1001(puck) groups=1001(puck)
How about "ls -ld /home/<user>"?
alex=<user>
drwxr-xr-x 23 gdm users 4096 Apr 28 14:17 /home/alex
puck=<user>
drwxr-xr-x 8 puck puck 4096 may 4 16:05 /home/puck
'alex' cannot log in to graphic but can log into terminal
'puck' was added today and can log in to graphic and terminal
I recall now that in my diddling, I tried to create a
new group called 'users', intending to make 'alex' a member
but I'm not sure if 'alex' is actually a member.
On more than one system, please.
Will hold on this until the above is resolved.
