On the read side, yes.  On the write side there are still
(perhaps even plenty of) issues WRT the various DVD write
formats.  Most CD writers will probably work out of the box.  If
your model *really* doesn't work, you can always write (the human
kind) the author of cdrecord.  He's quite proud of his work.

OTOH I read the dire word "woody" above, and I'm not too sure.
There may be kernel issues that will require getting a special
"woody" backport or compiling the latest cdrecord[1] yourself.

[1] An absolute necessity if you're going to bother the upstream
author with a bug report.
