You could try selecting a different resolution in the configuration or
toggling the option about using the frame buffer device (I think this
worked for when I had a similar problem). I don't think is necesary
to go to the trouble of installing the packages you mentioned since it
looks that the driver you are using right now loaded correctly and the
chipset recognized.
