Unreachable cdrom

Hello!
I submited my problem to debian-french-user but no one answered to me so I
try on this list although I am not subscribed (who cares? btw), so if
anyone cares to answer please mail or cc to my address.
My Linux is a debian testing/unstable.
Since last week I cannot mount any cdrom; the command 'mount /cdrom' is
replied with '/dev/cdrom n'est pas un périphérique de bloc valide', i
guess in english something like 'not a valid device block'. Of course the
usual modules are installed, and there is a symlink /dev/cdrom to
/dev/scd0.
When I do 'hdparm /dev/hdd', I get:

magnan:/home/jean# hdparm /dev/hdd

/dev/hdd:
 HDIO_GET_MULTCOUNT failed: Input/output error
 I/O support  =  0 (default 16-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  0 (off)
 using_dma    =  0 (off)
 keepsettings =  0 (off)
 HDIO_GET_NOWERR failed: Input/output error
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 BLKRAGET failed: Input/output error
 HDIO_GETGEO failed: Invalid argument
 busstate     =  1 (on)

and 'cdrecord -scanbus':

magnan:/home/jean# cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord 2.01a07 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2003 Jörg Schilling
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root.
cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'.
cdrecord: Also make sure that you have loaded the sg driver and the driver for
cdrecord: SCSI hardware, eg. ide-scsi if you run IDE/ATAPI drives over
cdrecord: ide-scsi emulation. Read /usr/share/doc/cdrecord/README.ATAPI.setup!

But in the boot message my cdroaster is correctly identified: from /var/log/messages:

Apr 30 18:11:54 magnan kernel: hdd: GoldStar CD-RW CED-8120B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive

As for music, I can play audio cd's just with the device's buttons, but if
I try to do it with kscd, kscd is quite impotent and starts doing some
strange noises.
I have had the device tested on a W$ machine, and it worked
perfectly well.
Could somebody help?
Thanks,
