imap ssl proxy thingo

I have an email server which I inherited, Exchange 5.5 (yes).
However my predecessor did not configure it correctly, and so, it does not
support imap-ssl.
Now, as email credentials are the same as the server credentials, I am
reluctant to open the port to allow straight imap access.

This is causing me problems because staff want to access email from home.

I have partially solved this by building a Deb
Woody/Apache-ssl/php4/mysql/horde/imp/imap machine which allows them to
access their email via a ssl web session.

It works and most are happy.

Part of the imp install is imap-proxy (
http://www.kuleuven.net/projects/imapproxy/ ), which proxies the imap
connections between the web server and the Exchange server.

What I would like is a similar proxy to provide imap-ssl logins to the
outside world and connect them to the normal imap login on the server.

Any ideas ?

I am not prepared to rebuild this server at this point, I am not in a
position to move away from Exchange either.

Thanks.
