Hi all & Nick,

Frankly, you're going to be far happier with a hardware upgrade. A
PIII-500 MHz system is highly usable and costs probably ~$100 currently
(US pricing). New systems for <$300 will put you over 1GHz.
Using Mozilla 1.3 in Debian unstable on a Dual P3 1Ghz box, it's
sluggish, like a wet sponge. But as far as apps and speed go, that's
my only complaint.

Eh?
I was & am using Netscape 7.2 in this motherboard, with a Duron 1000,
512 megs PC-133 ramage & it was not sluggish.
How much ram ya got?
Ram for your beastie, is "relatively" cheap, slap in another 128/256!
Even a single Intel CPU's at 1 gig, should be able to run Mozie fast
enough?!
Of course, AMD cpu's will do it much better! ;-)
Your brain should be easily big enough, but it sounds like a lack of ram
& therefore swapping to a HDD swap file?
You got hdparm installed & tuned your HDD?
I've just upgraded my brain to a XP-1800 & wow, everything has speed up
great, except for OpenOffice 1.0.1, that still takes about 12 seconds to
open up, but hey, it is excellent for the price! :-)
