I have to wonder:  When will the other word processors (openoffice.org
writer and kword in particular) get with the interoperability and
ditch thier own specific formats in favor of the far more flexible and
usable LaTeX?

Using a format that's professional grade, portable and flexable for
word processing seems obvious, so why did koffice and openoffice make
the same mistake the closed guys do?
