OT: buffy keybinding in mutt

the '.' key in mutt is bound to "buffy list":

.           buffy-list            list mailboxes with new mail 

i like this feature, which i recently accidentally discovered.  my
question is this: it appears to only list mailboxes to which
procmail delivers that have new mail, not all new mailboxes with new
mail.  does anyone know
  (a) if this is the case, and
  (b) if i can somewhere specify other mailboxes to query?
