yeah vmware tools(not vmware toolbox), as someone else pointed out
go to settings->vmware tools install(you need a CD drive configured
in the virtual machine), mount the CD drive, and extract the tar.gz
file on the CD(virtual CD) and run the installer, does not require
X. the vmware docs/help has detailled instructions
