when I get in such a situation(which is quite rare since I run stable,
haven't run testing since june ?) sometimes I just find it easiest to
remove all of X. and reinstall from there on up. This is sure to nab
everything related to X. If your on a dialup connection it may take
some time to reinstall the software but my systems are on fast connections
so reinstalls take only a few minutes ..
