Mutt and imap-ssl

I'm new it imap, so I'm not sure how to setup mail clients.

I installed courier-imap-ssl today (along with Apache-ssl and
squirrelmail).  My cert is not signed.  I can access imap with
squirrelmail, but I cannot with mutt.

I created a .muttrc as:

set certificate_file=~/.mutt_certs
mailboxes {localhost/ssl}/inbox

And when I try to start mutt:

$ mutt -f '{localhost/ssl}inbox'
Server certificate is not yet valid

I think I might need a few tips to get started...
