If you want SSL encryption (you probably do since it's about the only
widespread HTTP-supported encryption scheme), you can create the certificate
yourself. The apache-ssl package will step you through that procedure upon
installation. The only downside of this is that a visitor will be told that
the certificate isn't signed by any known CA. This doesn't weaken protection
in itself but may hurt the trust your visitors put in the site since the
warnings most browsers pop up upon being offered an untrusted certificate are
rather drastic.
