This is already the case. Most vendors will not spend more money on 
providing a service than that service creates in revenue. Rest assured that 
as soon as this equation tips in the favor of Linux you will see Linux 
wherever it makes fiscal sense.  I recall a popular video card manufacturer 
being very upfront about this, posting on their web site to do as you 
suggest, ask for  Linux support.
