defining an alias in .bashrc

[peter_easthope@gulfnet.sd64.bc.ca]

The .bashrc contains this definition.

alias mantxt='man -Tlatin1 $* | col -bx > $*.txt'

Submitting mantxt dpkg gives this.

bash: col -bx: command not found
What manual page do you want?

Can anyone tell me how to fix the definition?
