Pretty much the same way it does here, though people not used to being
on the net (ie, pretty much everybody not technically apt) tend to get
offended when, even privately, it's pointed out that they've done
something self-deprecating or potentially harmful. At this point,
these people both have the information at thier disposal and fail to
apply it; they're no longer ignorant, they're stupid[1]. Fortunately, most of
these people are safely ignored, which is the best way to discourage
the stupid.

Since it sounds like a college network, check to see if your school's
network AUP requires users to follow accepted netiquette, and keep in
touch with the campus abuse desk. Failing that, attempt to befriend
the campus BOfH[2].

[1] I differentiate between igorant and stupid. There is a cure for
ignorance, but not stupidity. Stupidity should be a crime. (I used
to think stupidity should be filmed for our amusement. But then
Survivor hit, and a whole flood of "reality" TV. I wonder if anybody
ever let the producers of those shows know that Survivor, American
Idol, etc., are about as rooted in reality as Jeopardy or Wheel of
Fortune, and the only shows worthy of bearing "reality" as a genre
title would be Cops, the news, Real TV and the World's Bloodiest High Speed
Car Accidents specials you see on Fox...)

[2] Be warned, he may try to kill you. Go read Bastard Operator From
Hell on ntk.net if you don't get it.
