Others have pointed to update-rc.d.  There is also rcconf which might
help.

I work with several Redhat servers, two Debian servers and a few
Debian desktops.  My experience is that the Debian machines are much
easier to administer and to keep up to date and that there are many
more tools available for Debian than for Redhat.
