I discovered that CD-RW burning is more sensitive to limitations of the
drive. To make my IDE drive work, I had to add
-immed -force
to the cdrecord command. Despite the man page sounding scary about -force,
the CD's work fine in another drive, and in my DVD player (if I make VCDs
out of them).
