libpam-ldap not working

Hello, does anyone know the trick to get simple ldap binds working in
stable? The -x switch works for the ldap-utils, but how do you get other
simple binds working? I've been trying
SASL_SECPROPS  none
in /etc/ldap/ldap.conf, but thats not helping. When I try to authenticate
as an ldap user, I get the following in my syslog:

Apr 14 22:45:42 force slapd[1027]: do_bind
Apr 14 22:45:42 force slapd[1027]: do_bind: version=3 dn="" method=128
Apr 14 22:45:42 force slapd[1027]: send_ldap_result: conn=22 op=0 p=3
Apr 14 22:45:42 force slapd[1027]: send_ldap_response: msgid=1 tag=97
err=0
Apr 14 22:45:42 force slapd[1024]: daemon: select: listen=6
active_threads=1 tvp=NULL
Apr 14 22:45:42 force slapd[1027]: do_bind: v3 anonymous bind
Apr 14 22:45:42 force slapd[1024]: daemon: activity on 1 descriptors
Apr 14 22:45:42 force slapd[1024]: daemon: activity on:
Apr 14 22:45:42 force slapd[1024]:  15r

However, my ldap.conf has binddn and bindpw set as does my
/etc/pam_ldap.conf. Any help would be appreciated.
