most of the "xscreensavers" have the ability to run in windowed
mode they can be called directly from /usr/lib/xscreensaver/ (they
are just stand-alone binaries).
from there you can use any old X based screen capture program to take
a screenshot, theres tons of ways to do it, afterstep for example
has a "take windowshot" and "take screenshot" options built into
a dropdown menu thats in the titlebar of every app.
