Thanks for the very helpful responses. I'm going to check out the headers right away. In the meantime I one absolutely clean computer - its hard drive was dying anyway so I installed a new hard driver and reinstalled Debian from cd's. I'll set up the iptables and record the timestamps on the files and watch to see what happens. Tom George
