Good suggestion - I too am keen to learn but if I'm to persuade others (and clients) of the virtues of Debian, a simple install will broaden its appeal.

Personally I think it is because Debian gives you the most options when
you configure packages, and expects people to look into and learn the
software to make informed descisions.  If you want a system that just
picks the options for you then there are plenty of distros that do that.
IMHO along with the current install procedure there should be an
installer option for beginning users that doesn't ask any questions and
just installs with a pre defined configuration.  Then if they want to
learn about it and change it they can.  I like the way it is but some
people find it confusing or overwhelming.
