The one that attracts my attention is "Full-duplex". I usually run at
half-duplex, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

In /etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider is your MTU set for 1500 or something
smaller (usually 1492)? You might try reducing this number a little at a
time and see if that facilitates a connection.
