That means exactly what it says...

So you have to compile SMBFS support into kernel, 
you don't have to recompile the whole kernel, only module for 
smbfs is enough... CONFIG_SMB_FS=m 
 (in 'make menuconfig' File Systems -> Network File Systems -> SMB
  File System Support)
	
for hints about compiling a new kernel see Linux Kernel HOWTO
( packages usually needed : gcc binutils make libncurses5-dev )
