Can you give an example?
There is a difference between win/Linux name resolving, that is most
visible when using internal network resolution, in particular the ones
without a domainname:

ping "mymachine" in Linux tries to do a dns name lookup of "mymachine"
ping "mymachine"  in Win tries to do a SMB name lookup <<<!!!!
ping "mymachine." in Win tries to do a dsn name lookup

if you don' use a domainname maybe you're simply facing this Windows
"feature"...
